Cult 00s Horror Reboot Set in London Underground Gets Promising Release Update

A fresh surge of terror is poised to emerge from under the city's streets. London .

Shudder has officially obtained the North American distribution rights for The Creep, an eagerly awaited remake of the 2004 cult horror film Creep.

Returning to the unsettling maze of the London Underground, The Creep brings back original director Christopher Smith along with crucial team members from the initial movie, such as cinematographer Danny Cohen and production designer John Frankish.

Smith, renowned primarily for his unsettling 2009 movie "Triangle," is poised to reimagine his breakthrough horror work over two decades since its initial release.

Headlining the cast is Jasmine Jobson, renowned for her performance in Top Boy, along with seasoned British horror actor Andy Nyman (known for Ghost Stories) and UK rapper Aitch, who will make his acting debut in this film. Deadline reports.

Based on the movie's official synopsis, the narrative will delve deep into the dark passageways of London’s famous underground railway network, where an ominous character dubbed Creep initiates a fresh wave of fear.

Johnson portrays an aspiring artist who is drawn back into her troubling criminal history. Newman assumes the part of a prisoner with deep insight into Creep’s terrifying deeds, whereas Aitch embodies Natter G, a renowned drill musician whose practical wisdom could be crucial for staying alive.

Behind the scenes, producers Julie Baines and Jason Newmark return from the original Creep, now producing under Dan Films and Newscope Films alongside Jonathan Taylor (Something in the Water) and Laurie Cook (Consecration).

HanWay Films is managing global sales, while True Brit Entertainment will handle the distribution in the UK and Ireland. The movie is set to be released in 2026, with primary filming planned to start this autumn.

To Smith, the reboot holds significant personal importance. He stated, “From the moment I completed 'Creep' and shared it with the world, my desire has been to revisit this narrative.”

'I've often sensed an unresolved aspect.' He mentioned that even though his illustrious career has lasted for many years, it's "Creep" that remains closest to his audience's hearts. 'Regardless of my subsequent work, it seems like "Creep" is the song everyone associates me with—and wants to discuss.'

He pledges an upgraded iteration of the initial nightmare: "I have ardently devoted myself to the screenplay to preserve the fear from the first one, all while refining the characters, enriching the humor, and intensifying the action... adding a contemporary spin for a fresh Generation Z viewership."

The Creep appears ready to present a bone-chilling new installment. Audiences anticipate it will frighten an entirely new cohort of viewers while also pleasing those who have followed the franchise from the beginning.
